Our Story

My name is Gary Collins, managing director of Academy Group Ltd. Over the past few years, I have been alarmed by the concerning number of heart-related deaths occurring in New Zealand, and after losing a close friend and colleague earlier this year to a heart attack, I decided to do something about it.

AED machines are vital during the first few minutes of a heart attack, with a person's chances of surviving cardiac arrest dropping 10-15% every minute they go without access to an AED. It is plain to me that every commercial premise should be equipped with a defibrillator to ensure our colleagues, friends, and whanau have access to life-saving support in the event of cardiac arrest. However, the issue is that AEDs are expensive and require training to operate them properly.

This is what led me to start this company: I was driven to find a solution to combat the high cost of a quality AED machine, particularly during the cost-of-living crisis, and provide free training to ensure the machines are effective.
